Atiku’s Camp Claims Resignation Letter Was Leaked, Blames Rogue Elements in PDP and APC

Paul Ibe, Media Adviser to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has alleged that the letter announcing Atiku’s resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was leaked, not officially released.

Ibe made the disclosure during an interview on Arise News on Wednesday night, in response to the controversy over the timing of the letter—which coincided with the nation’s mourning of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who was buried the day before.

“We’re here because people who never wished His Excellency Atiku Abubakar well leaked a communication of his. Yes, it was leaked,” Ibe said.

He accused internal opponents within the PDP and their allies in the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating the leak to stir political tension.

Ibe also took aim at Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, who had criticized Atiku for the timing of the letter and the use of the national Coat of Arms in his communication. According to Ibe, Keyamo had no business meddling in the matter when there were pressing issues in the aviation sector.

“It’s unfortunate that the Minister of Aviation, who rather should be concerned with serious issues… like runways and better infrastructure, jumped into this fray as though knowing what caused an accident even before investigation,” Ibe added.

He stressed that the nation should be focused on mourning Buhari, not Atiku’s political moves:

“Those who claim to know why he resigned—are they clairvoyants?… The memories of the late President Muhammadu Buhari, who was just interred yesterday, are still fresh.”

Atiku’s resignation letter, dated July 14, 2025, was submitted to his ward chairman in Adamawa State, and later posted on X by his media team. In the letter, the former Vice president cited “irreconcilable differences” and expressed disappointment over what he described as the PDP’s departure from its founding ideals.
