Buhari Performed Better Than Tinubu’s Government — Rotimi Amaechi

Amaechi Shuns Tinubu’s Campaign Rally In Rivers State

Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has openly stated that former President Muhammadu Buhari outperformed President Bola Tinubu in key areas, including security and electoral independence.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Thursday, Amaechi acknowledged that although Buhari didn’t achieve all his goals, he still did better “by all standards” than the current administration.

“Not everything was achieved. Buhari will tell you that he did not achieve all that he planned for. But then, he was better than the current government by all standards,” Amaechi asserted.

Amaechi, who also served as Governor of Rivers State, noted that Buhari showed stronger commitment to national security and transportation development, two sectors he said the current government is underperforming in. He added that under Buhari, the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was more pronounced.

“In terms of security, Buhari focused on it. In transportation, I’m open to a new challenge. Again, the independence of INEC was higher in Buhari’s government than now,” he explained.

According to him, political interference is now crippling democratic processes. He cited the delayed registration of new political parties, blaming government officials for allegedly instructing INEC not to proceed.

“Now, they can’t even register a party because government officials are telling them not to. Those who applied to INEC for registration — their rents have expired,” Amaechi added.

Amaechi emphasized that his criticism of the Tinubu administration is based on performance, not personal animosity.

“If he was doing well, I’d be the first to sing his praises,” he said.

The remarks are the latest in a series of bold statements by Amaechi as he positions himself and his political coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
