Controversial Nigerian journalist Kemi Olunloyo has shocked social media users by expressing empathy for actress Iyabo Ojo, following the fire outbreak that destroyed parts of the actress’s office building in Lekki, Lagos.
Known for their long-standing public feud, Olunloyo’s latest comments mark an unexpected moment of compassion. Taking to Facebook on Wednesday, she cautioned netizens against making unverified and harmful claims surrounding the fire.
“Stop mocking Iyabo Ojo on TikTok by saying Mohbad’s spirit is strong or that she set the fire as insurance fraud to pay her debts. Have Empathy!” she wrote.
Olunloyo Offers Safety Tips, Thanks God No Lives Were Lost
She further advised the actress to install smoke detectors and always turn off electrical appliances when the building is unoccupied, citing Nigeria’s unreliable power supply as a known fire hazard. The journalist also thanked God that no lives were lost in the incident.
Iyabo Ojo Confirms Fire Incident
The actress had earlier announced the tragic event in an Instagram post on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, revealing that the fire broke out around 7 p.m. She expressed gratitude to the fire service and her staff for their quick response.
“This just happened today… My office building caught fire. Thank you Lord that no life was lost. The devil tried but failed. With God, we will rebuild and bounce back stronger and better,” she stated.
Priscilla Ojo Reveals Chilling Threat Letter
In a concerning twist, Iyabo’s daughter Priscilla Ojo revealed on Wednesday that a threat letter had been delivered to the same office weeks before the fire, on May 24. She shared the note on her Instagram Story, which warned her mother would be monitored for three months and threatened her marriage.
“You put someone in trouble and you out enjoying giving out your daughter in marriage abi? O ma laya o. You can’t escape in the next 3 months as we are out monitoring you,” the letter read.
Priscilla believes the sender may have carried out the fire incident after failing to sabotage her recent wedding. She added that CCTV footage is being retrieved to identify who delivered the threat.
From Bitter Feud to Empathy
Iyabo Ojo and Kemi Olunloyo have exchanged bitter accusations in the past. Most recently, Iyabo blasted Olunloyo for claiming her late mother suffered from paranoid schizophrenia and accused the actress of abuse. Iyabo called Olunloyo’s life “pathetic” and said she had zero respect for her.
