“You Can’t Control Its Interpretation” – Shehu Sani Reacts to Shettima’s Controversial Comment

Shehu Sani Slams Opposition Leaders

Former Nigerian lawmaker Shehu Sani has weighed in on the backlash trailing Vice President Kashim Shettima’s remarks at the public presentation of the book “OPL 245: The Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Oil Block” by ex-Attorney General Mohammed Bello Adoke.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sani wrote:

“When you speak in tongues, utter a phrase or a proverb, you can’t control its interpretation or misinterpretation. My Brother the VP should know this rule better.”

Background:

  • During the book launch, VP Shettima referenced past efforts to remove him as Governor of Borno State under President Goodluck Jonathan.

  • His comments were widely interpreted as a subtle jab at the recent political turmoil in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara was suspended following President Bola Tinubu’s intervention.

However, the Vice President’s office has since denied any such comparison or criticism, stating that Shettima’s remarks were “historical reflections” and reaffirming his full support for Tinubu’s actions in Rivers State.

Key Takeaway:

Shehu Sani’s reaction underscores the risk of ambiguity in political speeches, especially during heightened political tension. His warning serves as a reminder to public figures to weigh their words carefully in the current climate.
