Nigeria’s Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, has dispelled rumours suggesting he was critically ill and hospitalised abroad, clarifying that he only took a short vacation in London after official duties.
Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, early Monday morning, looking healthy and energetic. He was warmly received at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.
Speaking to journalists on arrival, the Senate President dismissed the speculations as baseless:
“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation.”
The reports had circulated on social media in recent days, alleging he was hospitalised. However, Akpabio explained that after attending the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland (July 29–31), he proceeded to London for a brief rest, citing a hectic legislative year.
Looking ahead, the Senate President assured Nigerians of more robust legislative activities when the National Assembly reconvenes. He emphasized that the strong Nigerian delegation at the Geneva conference demonstrated the country’s commitment to democracy and promised closer collaboration between the legislature, executive, and judiciary for the benefit of citizens.
