Serie A: Atalanta to Take Legal Action Against Ademola Lookman

Ademola Lookman goes on strike to force Atalanta exit

Serie A side Atalanta are set to pursue legal action against Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman after he left Italy without permission and refused to attend training sessions in protest over the club’s rejection of Inter Milan’s transfer offer.

The 27-year-old winger reportedly embarked on an unauthorised vacation following Atalanta’s decision to turn down Inter’s latest bid. The club’s hierarchy, led by the Percassi family, considers his actions completely unacceptable and has prepared legal steps that could result in a heavy fine.

“After missing a few training sessions with Atalanta, Lookman has decided to leave Italy and go on an extra summer vacation,” Football Italia reported.

“The Percassi family have prepared legal action with a costly fine, as the striker’s attitude is considered completely unacceptable, regardless of the reasoning behind it.”

The standoff has created a transfer stalemate, with both Atalanta and Inter Milan waiting for the other to make the next move. Lookman’s frustration reportedly stems from a verbal understanding that he could leave this summer if a suitable offer came in.

Inter Milan have already agreed personal terms with the Nigerian international — a deal worth €4.5 million net per season until 2030 — but their latest offer of €42 million plus €3 million in add-ons falls short of Atalanta’s €50 million asking price. The club is unwilling to sell to a direct Serie A rival and is hoping other interested sides will step forward with improved proposals.

Tottenham Hotspur have now been linked with a move for Lookman, identifying him as a possible alternative to Real Madrid’s Rodrygo in their search to replace outgoing captain Son Heung-min.

Despite the interest, Atalanta retain control of the situation as Lookman still has two years left on his contract, meaning he would be required to return if no transfer is agreed.
