Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has pledged support for both Comfort Emmanson, the passenger who clashed with Ibom Air crew members, and the state-owned airline itself.
Speaking during a grand reception in his home local government area, Nsit Ubium, on Saturday, Eno emphasized that both Emmanson and the airline belong to Akwa Ibom and should therefore be supported. He, however, did not disclose the specific nature of the planned assistance for Emmanson.
Recall that Emmanson, an indigene of the state, was remanded following her altercation with Ibom Air staff before being pardoned by aviation minister Festus Keyamo. She later revealed that the incident left her traumatized, claiming her dignity was compromised and that she now struggles to interact with people.
Governor Eno urged Akwa Ibom residents not to take sides in the controversy but instead to stand by both parties.
“We will continue to support our flagship airline, Ibom Air. Every Akwa Ibom person should be proud of the airline which has flown our colours. Our money is invested in Ibom Air, so you should be proud of it.
“If there was any crisis, do not join issues with others who are spoilers because they don’t love good things. Whatever had transpired, we will solve the problem. It was a small mistake, both parties belong to us. The lady is our daughter. When two people fight, there is always the third person to separate the fight,” the governor stated.
With his intervention, the governor signaled a reconciliatory approach, stressing unity and collective pride in both the airline and its people.
