Nonye Soludo, wife of Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo, has strongly condemned the brutal assault of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member by men suspected to be part of a local vigilante group in Oba, Idemili North LGA.
The incident sparked outrage after a disturbing video went viral, showing the corps member being beaten, stripped, and humiliated by armed operatives believed to belong to the Agunechemba security outfit. Reports suggest the group had stormed a Corpers’ Lodge in search of suspected internet fraudsters when the young woman was attacked.
In a statement, Mrs. Soludo described the incident as “heartbreaking and unacceptable,” stressing that such actions have no place in a civilized society.
“There is absolutely no justification for such degrading and inhumane treatment. This behavior does not reflect the values of Anambra people or our administration,” she said. “Security operations must always be rooted in civility, decency, and the protection of human rights.”
She called for a full investigation and decisive action to bring the perpetrators to justice while reaffirming the state government’s commitment to protecting both residents and visitors.
Meanwhile, the Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the vigilante operatives linked to the assault. The police also revealed that although the video surfaced recently, the incident occurred in July. The victim is yet to be located as investigations continue.
The shocking footage, now trending online, shows the young corps member being slapped, punched, dragged, and stripped naked as she cried for mercy. The assault has drawn widespread condemnation, with many Nigerians demanding justice and greater protection for corps members serving in the state.
