Mrs Nonye Soludo Fires Back at Senator Uche Ekwunife Over Odour Claims

Anambra Governor’s Wife Condemns Assault of Female Corps Member by Vigilante Operatives

Mrs. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Governor of Anambra State, has responded to Senator Uche Ekwunife, the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following comments the lawmaker made in a viral video mocking Governor Charles Soludo over alleged “mouth and body odour.”

In a strongly worded statement signed by her media adviser, Daniel Ezeigwe, Mrs. Soludo dismissed the remarks as false, petty, and misleading, urging Ekwunife to focus instead on clarifying the authenticity of her PhD certificate, which has been questioned for allegedly being issued by an unaccredited institution.

The statement read:

“At no time was Soludo nor his wife involved in the government of the time (Mbadinuju). Though it is sad that Senator Ekwunife would rather resort to inciting hate and name-calling against a woman who is widely loved by the people, the truth is that, unlike Ekwunife herself, the governor’s wife can never be drawn to political or personal debasement.”

Mrs. Soludo further clarified that she never played any role in the administration of late Governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju (1999–2003), contrary to claims made by Ekwunife in her video.

“The viral recorded clip, where Senator Uche Ekwunife falsely stated that the governor’s wife was part of late Dr. Mbadinuju’s administration, should be totally disregarded as a statement of mischief and pure deceit.”

The Governor’s wife also highlighted her personal achievements prior to her husband’s emergence as governor, noting that she was already an established entrepreneur in agriculture and real estate during that period.

Turning the spotlight back on the senator, the statement challenged Ekwunife to:

  • Provide verifiable evidence that her PhD certificate is authentic.

  • Address her own role in the Mbadinuju administration, which was widely criticized for its failures.

“We, therefore, urge Senator Ekwunife to stop swinging the conversation and focus solely on explaining to Ndi Anambra her involvement in the political disaster of the state between 1999 and 2003.”
