Peter Obi Clarifies Stance on Coalition, Emphasizes Purpose-Driven Leadership

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has weighed in on the viral Ibom Air incident involving Miss Comfort Emmanson, condemning what he calls glaring double standards in Nigeria’s justice system.

In a statement shared on X on Monday, Obi apologised to the Ibom Air crew allegedly assaulted by Emmanson but decried the “dehumanising” treatment she reportedly suffered at the hands of security operatives — including being stripped in public, arraigned, and remanded.

He contrasted her swift prosecution with the case of another passenger accused of delaying a flight and endangering hundreds of lives, who, according to Obi, has faced no arrest, no court appearance, and is even enjoying public sympathy from government officials.

“This case is not just about one young woman; it is about the double standards that poison our justice system,” Obi stated, warning that selective enforcement of the law erodes public trust and undermines the rule of law.

Obi called on the Minister of Aviation and other authorities to explain the disparity, insisting that justice must be fair, equal, and never tilted in favour of the powerful.
