Kidnapped train passengers are not insured against terror attacks – FG officials

A train coach detached from its compartments along the Ladipo section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway on Thursday morning, sparking panic and temporarily halting rail movement in the area.

The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m., as the train traveled from Ogba Ayo in Ogun State to Apapa, Lagos. The rear coach suddenly disconnected, prompting confusion among passengers and nearby commuters.

Eyewitness Oloruntoba Omodele described the moment as alarming but confirmed there were no injuries or fatalities:

“Everyone was shocked by what happened, but thankfully, no lives were lost.”

The incident caused significant traffic disruption in the busy Ladipo axis, already notorious for congestion. Emergency responders arrived swiftly to clear the tracks and manage traffic flow.

Though officials have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the mechanical failure, transportation experts are calling for a thorough investigation and a push for enhanced rail maintenance, especially in densely populated areas like Lagos.

The incident highlights persistent infrastructure and safety concerns within Nigeria’s rail system, particularly in bustling corridors where breakdowns can quickly escalate into public hazards.
