Popular Fuji musician Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as KWAM1, has been blacklisted by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) and barred from flying for six months following a dramatic incident at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The altercation, which occurred on August 5, 2025, involved the 67-year-old artist attempting to board ValueJet flight VK 201 with a flask containing an unidentified liquid.
According to aviation reports, KWAM1 refused to surrender the flask when confronted by aviation security and the flight captain. He allegedly insisted the contents were prescribed medication. However, matters escalated when the artist was accused of pouring the liquid—believed to be alcohol—on a security officer.
The situation reportedly intensified when KWAM1 stood in the aircraft’s path as it was preparing to taxi, prompting emergency intervention from airport officials to prevent a potential safety hazard.
Following a full review, the NCAA issued a six-month no-fly ban on the veteran singer for violating multiple aviation safety protocols. The regulatory body also suspended the two pilots involved in the incident for initiating departure procedures without ensuring the matter was fully resolved, citing gross negligence that could have endangered passengers.
In response to the sanctions, KWAM1’s media team issued a statement refuting the allegations. They maintained that the flask only contained drinking water provided at the airport lounge and denied any physical altercation or obstruction.
“The claims that K1 blocked the aircraft or poured alcohol on anyone are completely unfounded,” the statement read.
“As a seasoned international traveler, he understands and respects aviation rules.”
The team also alleged that top executives from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and ValueJet later reached out to the singer to apologize for the misunderstanding and offered him a private jet, which he declined.
Meanwhile, FAAN has confirmed that an investigation is underway, emphasizing that aviation safety protocols will be enforced without exception, regardless of a person’s social or celebrity status.
“There will be no compromise on the safety and security of airport operations,” FAAN said in a brief statement.
This incident has sparked debate across social media platforms, with many calling for greater accountability from public figures, especially at sensitive national infrastructure like airports.
