Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has accused the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police of violating the Constitution following a police summon issued to him.
The Kaduna State Police Command had earlier stopped a scheduled meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the state. Afterwards, the Command summoned El-Rufai and seven members of the ADC for questioning over alleged criminal conspiracy, incitement of public disturbance, mischief, and causing grievous hurt.
According to the summon, the ADC Chairman in the state was instructed to produce El-Rufai and others at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 8.
Reacting at a press conference held at his private residence in Kaduna, El-Rufai strongly condemned the move, describing it as a threat to democracy and rule of law.
“The commissioner knows what he is doing violates the Constitution. He waved a piece of paper claiming it was a court order, but it was never served. Even if such an order exists, it must be legally delivered before it can take effect. That has not happened,” El-Rufai stated.
He further described the actions of the police as a “dangerous descent into lawlessness” and vowed to challenge the matter in court.
“We want to see that injunction, we want to know the grounds, and we will contest them in court. This is not the end — further steps will follow,” he added.
