Nigerian international Ola Aina has shared an update on his recovery after successfully undergoing surgery on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, following the hamstring injury he sustained during the Super Eagles’ 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa last week.
The Nottingham Forest full-back confirmed that the procedure was successful and expressed gratitude to his club, teammates, and fans for their unwavering support during his rehabilitation.
Ola Aina’s Statement on Recovery
Taking to social media, the 27-year-old defender wrote:
“Surgery went really well and recovery is going smoothly. Looking forward to WHAM.
A massive thank you to the club, @officialnffc, my teammates, and all the fans for the incredible support over the past few days, it meant a lot.
I will be working hard every day to get back out there as soon as possible and can’t wait to get back on the pitch at the City Ground. See you soon.”
Expected Timeline for Return
Aina is expected to be sidelined until December 2025, meaning he could miss a significant portion of Nottingham Forest’s Premier League campaign as well as the Super Eagles’ preparations ahead of their upcoming international fixtures.
Despite the setback, Forest will be counting on his return later in the season, given his versatility and experience in England’s top flight.
Aina’s Season So Far
Before the injury, Ola Aina had already made three league appearances for Nottingham Forest this season, impressing with his pace, defensive solidity, and attacking support from the flanks.
Aina, who has previously played for Chelsea, Torino, and Fulham, has been a consistent figure for the Super Eagles, earning over 30 international caps and featuring at major tournaments, including the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
What This Means for Club and Country
His absence will be a blow to both Nottingham Forest and Nigeria. For Forest, his injury leaves a gap in their defensive options, while for Nigeria, his recovery will be crucial ahead of the next round of World Cup qualifiers.
