Shehu Sani Laments FCT’s New Tax on Household Appliances

Shehu Sani Fires Back at UK Minister Kemi Badenoch

Former senator Shehu Sani has raised concerns over the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Administration’s decision to impose taxes on household appliances such as televisions and radios.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Sani warned that the policy, if unchecked, could soon be replicated in states across the country.

He wrote:
“Now that the FCT Councils will start collecting taxes for TVs and other domestic appliances, it will soon spread to the states.”

The development comes after the Abuja Tenement Office began implementing the tax in August, introducing a uniform levy of ₦66,000 per household for the use of TVs, radios, and other domestic electronics.
