Manchester United’s minority owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has thrown his support behind manager Ruben Amorim, insisting the Portuguese coach will be given three years to prove himself at Old Trafford.
Amorim, who succeeded Erik ten Hag in November 2024, has endured a difficult start to life in Manchester, with United currently sitting 10th in the Premier League table — six points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Despite growing pressure and speculation about his future, Ratcliffe, who owns 25% of the club, told The Business Podcast that the 40-year-old manager needs time to implement his vision.
“He has not had the best of seasons. Ruben needs to demonstrate he is a great coach over three years. That’s where I would be,” Ratcliffe said.
He criticized the impatience of modern football culture, adding:
“The press, sometimes I don’t understand. They want overnight success. They think it’s a light switch. You know, you flick a switch and it’s all going to be roses tomorrow.”
Ratcliffe’s comments signal a vote of confidence in Amorim, suggesting that Manchester United’s leadership is taking a long-term approach to rebuilding the team and restoring its former glory.
