Businessman and philanthropist Seyi Tinubu has denied claims by Nollywood actress Sarah Martins that he gifted her ₦20 million following her arrest and release for violating Lagos sidewalk laws while feeding the homeless.
Earlier this week, Sarah Martins had taken to social media to celebrate what she called a “from disgrace to grace” moment, alleging that Seyi Tinubu came to her rescue after her encounter with the Lagos State Environmental Task Force.
However, in a statement shared via his Instagram page, Seyi Tinubu clarified that he was not directly involved in any donation and stressed his commitment to law and order in Lagos.
He wrote:
“I have been informed that some friends of mine, moved by compassion, raised funds to support a young woman who had an encounter with the law over an environmental violation.
Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness and concern.
That said, I must emphasize that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State. Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for both our law and order.”
The clarification follows widespread media coverage of Martins’ claim, which had sparked heated debates online about privilege and accountability.
By distancing himself from the alleged donation, Seyi Tinubu emphasized that compassion must not come at the expense of law, urging Nigerians to act responsibly while supporting others.
