“The crisis in Rivers State is over” – Governor Siminalayi Fubara Declares

PDP Names Suspended Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara to 2025 Convention Committee

Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has officially declared an end to the political crisis that rocked the state earlier this year, assuring residents that all parties involved have fully reconciled.

Speaking during the opening of the 2025/2026 Legal Year at the Rivers State High Court Complex in Port Harcourt on Friday, Fubara stated that the state is now focused on reclaiming the progress lost during the six-month period of emergency rule.

According to him, the return of peace marks the beginning of a new era of governance, unity, and accelerated development across the state.

“The crisis in Rivers State is over. We have reconciled fully, and we are moving forward as one,” Fubara declared.

The governor was suspended from office on March 18, 2025, along with his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, and members of the State House of Assembly, following the six-month emergency rule imposed by President Bola Tinubu.

During that period, former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), was appointed as the state’s administrator.
Fubara and his team were reinstated on September 18 after President Tinubu lifted the emergency rule.

Since his return, the governor has made decisive changes, including the dissolution of the State Micro Finance Agency and the State Pensions Board, both of which had been reconstituted by Ibas during his interim leadership.

Fubara also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening the judiciary, emphasizing the need for it to function as an independent and effective justice system.

“The Rivers State Judiciary remains one of the best in Nigeria, with some of the brightest judicial minds who interpret and apply the law with courage and integrity,” he said.

He urged legal practitioners to uphold the rule of law and remain faithful to their oath of service, reminding judges and lawyers alike of their duty to ensure justice without bias or favoritism.

“Every judge is under a judicial oath to provide equal justice to all persons according to law, without fear, favour, or affection,” Fubara added.

With calm restored and governance back on track, observers believe the Rivers State government is now poised to accelerate key developmental projects and rebuild public trust after months of political uncertainty.
