Former NFL player Antonio Brown made his first court appearance in New Jersey on Friday in connection with his ongoing attempted murder case, where he agreed to be transferred to Florida to face the charge.
According to officials from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office, the 37-year-old appeared before Judge Barry and “executed a waiver of extradition,” meaning he will not contest being moved to Miami — the site of the alleged incident.
Until Florida authorities assume custody,Antonio Brown will remain in the Essex County Jail.
The charge originates from a violent altercation in mid-May during an Adin Ross charity boxing event. Brown allegedly attempted to shoot a man identified as Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu. A portion of the encounter was reportedly caught on video, showing Brown grabbing a firearm and running with it.
Antonio Brown told police that night that he acted in self-defense and was initially permitted to leave the scene. However, an arrest warrant was later issued in June after further investigation — by which time Brown had left the country.
Earlier this week, he was extradited from Dubai back to the United States to face the charges
