Sean “Diddy” Combs has reportedly hit a setback in his path to full sobriety while serving time at FCI Fort Dix. According to TMZ, the music mogul was caught drinking on prison grounds, leading to brief disciplinary action from officials.
Sources claim Diddy was consuming homemade alcohol — a mixture made by inmates using Fanta, sugar, and apples, which is left to ferment for about two weeks before being drunk. Following the incident, Diddy was initially slated to be moved to a different unit within Fort Dix. However, prison authorities ultimately decided to let him remain in his current unit, giving him what appears to be another chance.
The leniency may be due to Fort Dix’s classification as a low-security facility. Still, the incident casts a shadow over Diddy’s public commitment to sobriety, particularly given his long battle with alcohol addiction.
Diddy has previously spoken about how alcohol abuse played a major role in his downfall. Before his sentencing in October, he told Judge Arun Subramanian that he had been sober for the first time in 25 years and expressed a desire to change his life.
“The old me died in jail and a new version of me was reborn. Prison will change you or kill you — I choose to live,” he wrote in a letter to the judge.
While relapses are not uncommon in recovery, this recent incident could complicate Diddy’s efforts toward rehabilitation and might even affect his chances of early release.
The Bad Boy Records founder specifically requested to serve his time at Fort Dix to participate in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP), which can reduce a prisoner’s sentence by up to one year — provided they maintain good behavior and avoid violence.
Diddy checked into prison just before Halloween and has been serving his sentence for over a week. His projected release date remains May 8, 2028.
