Former Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, has sent a message of encouragement to her successor, Onyinyechi Basil, after the beauty queen represented Nigeria at the Miss Universe 2025 pageant in Thailand.
Sharing a photo of Basil on her Instagram Story on Friday, Adetshina wrote:
“@yech.i You did amazing 🥺🇳🇬 we are extremely proud of you.”
Basil competed in a pageant filled with drama and controversies. Miss Mexico, Fatima Bosch, was eventually crowned Miss Universe after a chaotic build-up that included public reprimands, judges stepping down, and walkouts from some contestants.
The final round featured contestants from Ivory Coast, the Philippines, Thailand, and Venezuela, selected from over 120 participants.
Bosch had staged a dramatic walkout during a meeting with Thai organiser Nawat Itsaragrisil, an incident that drew global attention and criticism.
Through all the tension, Basil held her own. Crowned Miss Universe Nigeria earlier this year, she earned praise for her poise, confidence, and for representing Nigeria with pride on the world stage.
