Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has reaffirmed his determination to help Nigeria win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations currently taking place in Morocco.
The Atalanta forward, who is enjoying one of his most impressive tournaments to date, is expected to play a pivotal role when Nigeria take on hosts Morocco in Wednesday’s semi-final at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Opponents Algeria previously tried to contain Lookman with a tight man-marking strategy, but the Super Eagles adapted effectively, finding goals through Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams. With three goals already to his name, Lookman insists his attention remains firmly on the present and on lifting the trophy with Nigeria.
“I’m always focused on the present and, at the moment, the present is being here in Morocco for AFCON and trying to help my country win the tournament,” he told Footy Africa. “All the experiences are in the past.”
Nigeria have emerged as the tournament’s most potent attacking side, scoring 14 goals in five matches while conceding just four and keeping two clean sheets. Their attacking threat has been led by Osimhen, Lookman and Alex Iwobi, with strong support from Akor Adams. Midfield balance and defensive solidity have been provided by Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, Semi Ajayi and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
Eric Chelle’s men will be looking to sustain their fine form as they chase a place in the AFCON 2025 final.
