Celebrity fashion designer and Tiannah Empire founder, Toyin Lawani, has called out Lagos-based private medical facility, Euracare Hospital, over alleged medical negligence following a surgery she underwent at the hospital.
Lawani made the allegations on Sunday through a series of posts shared on her Instagram page, where she recounted what she described as severe complications after undergoing a spine surgery at the facility.
According to the fashion entrepreneur, she spent close to ₦100 million on medical care at the hospital but later lost the use of her legs and developed a lung infection. She alleged that her condition worsened after multiple surgical procedures, leading to breathing difficulties and damage to her vocal cords.
Toyin Lawani further claimed that after being discharged, she was readmitted to the hospital when she lost the use of her legs, prompting consultations with medical specialists abroad. She said she was later flown to the United Kingdom, where doctors reportedly discovered infections in her lungs and advised further surgery.
While threatening legal action,Toyin Lawani stated that she would pursue the matter once she regains sufficient strength, adding that she is still dealing with the health consequences of the treatment she received at the hospital.
Her comments come days after renowned author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie accused the same hospital of negligence in an incident that allegedly led to the death of her son. Following Adichie’s allegation, the Lagos State Government ordered an investigation into the matter.
As of the time of reporting, Euracare Hospital has not publicly responded to the allegations.
