United States President Donald Trump has attributed the large bruises frequently seen on his hand to aspirin use, while firmly denying claims that he falls asleep during public meetings.
Speaking in an interview published on Thursday, January 1, Trump defended his health, insisting it is “perfect,” and expressed irritation over ongoing scrutiny of his physical condition. During the interview, he also corrected an earlier claim about undergoing an MRI scan in October, clarifying that he had instead undergone a CT scan.
At 79, Trump is the oldest person to assume the office of US president. He has consistently projected an image of strength and vitality through frequent media appearances, constant activity on social media, and AI-generated memes depicting him as a superhero. However, the first year of his second term has reignited public focus on his health.
Observers have noted persistent bruising on Trump’s right hand, often concealed with heavy makeup or bandages, as well as occasional swelling around his ankles. He has also faced criticism over instances where he appeared to struggle to keep his eyes open during public engagements, including a televised Oval Office meeting with health representatives in November. The moments have drawn heightened attention given the President past portrayal of his predecessor, Joe Biden, as “sleepy.”
Biden exited office at 82, making him the oldest president in US history, a record Trump is projected to surpass during his current term.
Trump, who rarely exercises outside of playing golf and has openly acknowledged his fondness for fast food, explained that the bruising on his hand is a result of daily aspirin intake used to thin his blood.
