Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is scheduled to appear before the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2026.
The planned appearance follows an alleged attempt by security operatives to arrest him on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, shortly after he arrived from Cairo, Egypt, aboard Egypt Air flight MS 877.
EFCC Invitation Delivered Earlier
El-Rufai’s counsel, Ubong Esop Akpan, disclosed that the EFCC invitation had been delivered to the former governor’s residence in December 2025 while he was abroad for medical treatment and rest.
According to the lawyer, El-Rufai’s legal team had since been in communication with the anti-graft agency and assured it of his willingness to honour the invitation upon his return to Nigeria.
Awaiting Official EFCC Statement
As of the time of filing this report, the EFCC has not released an official statement outlining the nature of the invitation or the issues under review.
The development comes amid heightened political tension surrounding El-Rufai, who recently alleged increased pressure and intimidation against him and some of his associates.
Further details are expected following his scheduled appearance before the commission.
