American rapper Lil Nas X appeared at a courthouse in Los Angeles on Thursday for a hearing linked to a battery of a peace officer charge stemming from his 2025 arrest.
The Grammy-winning artist, known for hit songs such as Old Town Road and Montero (Call Me by Your Name), arrived in court accompanied by his lawyer, Christy O’Connor.
During the hearing, O’Connor asked the judge to grant a delay so she could file a motion seeking to move the felony police battery case into a diversion programme. Such programmes typically allow charges to be dismissed if defendants successfully complete treatment or rehabilitation requirements.
The case stems from an incident that occurred in August 2025 in Los Angeles. According to law enforcement authorities, officers responded to reports that the rapper was behaving erratically.
Police alleged that Lil Nas X removed his clothing and lunged toward an officer during the encounter. He was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical evaluation after authorities raised concerns about a possible drug overdose.
Following the incident, the performer was charged with four felony counts connected to the confrontation. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
After his arrest, Lil Nas X also entered an inpatient treatment facility.
If convicted, the rapper could face a maximum sentence of up to five years in a California state prison.
