Lil Nas X Makes First Court Appearance Since August Arrest

Lil Nas X has appeared in court for the first time since his arrest in August, and according to his legal team, the Grammy-winning star is in excellent spirits.

The Old Town Road hitmaker—born Montero Hill—attended his hearing on Monday, November 17, shortly after completing an inpatient treatment program he checked himself into following the incident. Court observers noted that the singer appeared calm and upbeat, even smiling during the proceedings. During the session, the judge signed a protective order governing the transfer of discovery materials in the case.

His attorney, Drew Findling, assured fans that the 25-year-old artist is recovering well and staying strong.
“As you can see, Montero is doing amazing, doing great, and we’re super happy for him,” Findling said. “We’re looking forward to a positive resolution in this case, which we’re very confident of.”

Lil Nas X was previously absent from a scheduled court appearance in September due to his ongoing treatment, a decision his lawyer described as necessary for the artist’s personal and emotional well-being. At the time, Findling emphasized the strong support system surrounding the rapper.

“We’re doing what is best for [Lil Nas X] from a personal standpoint and a professional standpoint, but most importantly, for his well-being,” he said. “He is surrounded by an amazing family, an amazing team of people that care about him and love him. He’s had a great life, and he’ll continue to have a great life. This is a bump that he’s going to get over.”

Lil Nas X is scheduled to return to court on March 12. If convicted, he faces up to five years in prison.
