“He Has Not Resigned” — Adebayo Adelabu Denies Viral Exit Claim Amid 2027 Speculation

Adebayo Adelabu Denies Viral Exit Claim Amid 2027 Speculation

The office of Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has dismissed reports circulating online that he has resigned from the Federal Executive Council, describing the claim as false.

Reacting to a widely shared resignation letter, the minister’s Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations, Bolaji Tunji, said the document did not originate from Adelabu’s office.

“He has not resigned. That letter of resignation did not come from his office,” Tunji stated, insisting the report is fabricated.

The clarification comes amid growing speculation about Adelabu’s political ambitions ahead of the 2027 elections. When asked whether the minister plans to step down to contest the Oyo State governorship, Tunji said, “When the time comes, everything will be revealed.”

The controversial letter, which circulated widely on social media, claimed Adelabu had submitted his resignation to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to focus on his governorship bid.

President Bola Tinubu had earlier directed all political appointees seeking elective positions in the 2027 general elections to resign by March 31, in line with provisions of the Electoral Act, and to ensure fairness among aspirants.

Adelabu has long been linked with the Oyo governorship race. In June 2025, he met with party stakeholders to signal his intention to run.

He previously contested under the All Progressives Congress in 2019 and later under the Accord Party in 2023 before returning to the APC following his appointment as minister.

The latest denial adds another layer to the unfolding political developments as potential contenders begin to position themselves ahead of the next election cycle.
