Speaker of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Adebowale Ogundoyin, has officially joined the gubernatorial race ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ogundoyin, who hails from the Ibarapa geopolitical zone, made his declaration during a meeting of stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Sunday.
The meeting took place in Igbo-Ora, located in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area.
Several political figures were in attendance, including a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibarapa Central/Ibarapa North federal constituency, Anthony Adepoju, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Ademola Ojo, and Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke.
Other attendees included party leaders and local government chairmen from across the Ibarapa zone, alongside key stakeholders within the PDP.
Ogundoyin, who currently represents Ibarapa East State Constituency in the Assembly, was reportedly encouraged by stakeholders at the meeting to contest the governorship position.
Responding to the call, he confirmed his readiness to enter the race and stated that he would be contesting under the PDP platform.
The gathering was initially convened to discuss preparations for a planned visit by Governor Seyi Makinde to the zone, but it ultimately served as the platform for Ogundoyin’s declaration.
