“I Was Very Desperate To Get Married” – Chude Jideonwo Reflects On Past Loneliness And Readiness For Marriage

Nigeria’s biggest filmmakers are all Yoruba – Chude Jideonwo

Media entrepreneur and TV host Chude Jideonwo has opened up about his earlier mindset toward marriage, revealing that he once felt strongly pressured to settle down in his twenties but now believes he was not emotionally ready at the time.

Speaking candidly, he admitted that his desire to get married back then was driven more by loneliness than genuine preparedness for commitment.

“When I was in my 20s, I was very desperate to get married… I was very lonely. I thought a wife was going to cure that, but I later realised I was simply lonely, and marriage would not have solved that,” he said.

According to him, that period of his life was marked by emotional uncertainty and a lack of self-understanding, which he now believes would have made marriage a wrong decision at the time.

Chude explained that one of his biggest lessons is that marriage cannot fix internal struggles or emotional voids, stressing the importance of personal growth before making long-term commitments.

He noted that clarity, stability, and self-awareness are essential foundations for healthy relationships, adding that he has since gained a better understanding of himself.

Looking back, he said timing and personal development played a major role in shaping his current perspective on relationships and life choices, helping him see marriage not as a solution to loneliness, but as a partnership that requires emotional readiness.
