Brand influencer Priscilla Ojo has come out strongly in defense of her mother, Iyabo Ojo, following online criticism linked to the drama surrounding the premiere of The Return of Arinzo.
The backlash emerged after a viral moment at the event, in which Funke Akindele appeared to ignore Toyin Abraham, both of whom are close to Iyabo. The situation led some fans to question why Iyabo did not step in.
Addressing the criticism in a detailed Instagram post, Priscilla insisted her mother has been unfairly targeted, suggesting there is a pattern of controversies surrounding the film’s release.
“Always misunderstood, always blamed, even when she’s not the one in the mix. Since Arinzo’s announcement, can’t you see the pattern? A lot of drama back to back, just for one aim, ruin her plans,” she wrote.
She also defended Iyabo’s character, pointing to the strong turnout at the premiere as evidence of her goodwill within the industry.
“If she were a bad person, do you think people would show up and support her? That shows how she shows up and supports people,” she added.
Priscilla further claimed that her mother often supports others both publicly and privately, but does not always receive the same support in return.
Despite the controversy, she expressed confidence in the project’s success, declaring that The Return of Arinzo will perform strongly at the box office.
Iyabo had earlier stated that she had made efforts to reconcile both parties involved in the dispute, but the situation eventually broke down.
The film is scheduled for release on April 3, with anticipation building despite the surrounding drama.
