Nigerian street-pop singer Qdot has publicly apologized to Muslims following backlash over comments many considered offensive and disrespectful to the Islamic faith.
The Yoruba-born artiste took to social media to issue a heartfelt statement, expressing regret over his remarks and emphasizing that he never intended to insult Islam or hurt those who practice the religion with sincerity, kindness, and integrity.
In his apology, Qdot acknowledged the importance of faith in people’s lives and appealed for forgiveness from members of the Muslim community.
“I want to offer my heartfelt apology to all Muslims, especially those who live their faith with goodness, integrity, and kindness. If at any time I spoke words that cursed, insulted, or disrespected your religion or your beliefs, I am truly sorry,” he wrote.
The singer further promised to be more thoughtful and respectful when discussing religious matters in the future.
“I ask for your forgiveness and promise to be more careful, respectful, and mindful in how I speak about all religions from now on. May we live in peace and understanding together,” he added.
Qdot’s apology comes after his earlier comments questioning whether Islam is truly a religion of peace.
In his previous statement, the singer criticized extremists who commit acts of kidnapping and terrorism while invoking religious phrases, expressing anger over the killing of innocent people, including children, in the name of religion.
The remarks sparked widespread reactions online, with some people supporting his criticism of violent extremists. In contrast, others argued that his comments unfairly associated the actions of criminals with the broader Islamic faith.
Following the backlash, the singer’s latest statement appears to be an effort to clarify his position and mend relations with members of the Muslim community.
The incident has also reignited conversations on social media about the distinction between religious teachings and the actions of individuals who misuse religion to justify violence.
Qdot’s apology has since generated mixed reactions, with some accepting his expression of remorse while others continue to debate the issues raised by his initial comments.
