Dancer and social media personality Korra Obidi has shared her frustration after missing a flight to Lagos, claiming the airline departed without calling her name. At the same time, she slept at the boarding gate.
In a video posted on social media, Korra explained that she had spent about eight hours waiting for her flight and was seated close to the departure gate when she accidentally fell asleep.
According to her, she woke up only to discover that the flight had already taken off.
“This has to be the worst flight experience I have ever had in my life. Everything was going great until I was sitting at the boarding gate and I didn’t even know they were boarding Lagos. I was sleeping.
“I opened my eyes and my flight had left. They didn’t even announce anything. They didn’t say anything. Now I have to pay $500 to buy another transit flight to Lagos.”
The entertainer said she was particularly upset because she believed airline staff should have called out her name after noticing she had not boarded.
After purchasing another ticket, Korra said she encountered another challenge when she tried to re-enter the boarding area to wait for her replacement flight.
“I have bought the flight now and want to go inside and wait for my flight. They’re telling me I cannot go inside because it’s too early to board since my flight is at midnight.
“Take note, I had already been waiting for eight hours. The flight I missed, I waited eight hours for it, and then I slept off and missed it.
“I was sitting right in front of the gate. They didn’t even call, ‘Passenger this or We’re calling passenger this and that.’ Nothing like that. They just left me there.”
Her experience has sparked mixed reactions online. While some sympathised with her and argued that airlines should make every effort to alert passengers before closing boarding, others pointed out that travellers are generally responsible for monitoring boarding announcements and ensuring they make it onto their flights.
As of the time of publication, the airline involved has not publicly responded to Korra Obidi’s claims.
