Nigerian life coach and writer Solomon Buchi has announced his decision to step back from active involvement in the feminism community, mentioning a lack of benefits for male supporters as a key factor.
His choice was made public following a debate online about advocating for boys, during which he engaged with a man defending women.
This conversation occurred around the time of the International Day of the Boy Child on May 16, prompting discussions on social media about the perceived disparities in recognition between boys and girls.
A Twitter user known as Daddy Shindara criticized the idea of boys not being celebrated enough, labeling it a “victim mentality” and questioning why men didn’t take the lead in honoring boys themselves.
He tweeted:
“This victim mentality wey we dey criticize women for, na wetin una dey do o. Women celebrate themselves, who asked you people not to celebrate yourselves?”
Solomon Buchi quoted this post, sharing his personal experience as a former male feminist. He stated:
“I used to be a male feminist like you. It doesn’t pay.”
