US election: Joe Biden seen wearing Trump’s MAGA cap

Ahead of the  the US Presidential election, President Joe Biden caused a stir by wearing a red cap belonging to his Republican opponent, Donald Trump.

Biden sported the Make America Great Again (MAGA) cap during an event marking the 23rd anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

While visiting firefighters in Pennsylvania, close to where one of the hijacked planes crashed on 9/11, Biden engaged in a friendly interaction with a Trump supporter.

They exchanged headgear, with Biden offering to autograph a hat with the presidential seal for the supporter.

Responding jocularly,Joe Biden said “I don’t remember my name, I’m slow.”

After some banter about age, Biden handed over the signed cap and briefly wore the Trump hat, which garnered cheers from the crowd.

The incident quickly made waves on social media, with Trump’s campaign expressing gratitude for the exchange.

But, a statement issued by the White House said Biden’s gesture was a way to underline the unity theme of the day.

The deputy White House Press Secretary, Andrew Bates said: “As a gesture, he gave a hat to a Trump supporter who then said that in the same spirit, POTUS should put on his Trump cap.”
