The police escorts assigned to Speaker Mojisola Meranda of the Lagos State House of Assembly have been removed, along with security personnel at the Assembly complex.
This leaves the speaker and the Assembly unprotected.
Concerns have been raised about the Speaker’s safety and vulnerability to potential threats. Authorities are urged to address this urgent situation.
Confirming the development, a source told Tribune: “As we speak, all security has been withdrawn from the Speaker, and she is now on her own.”
Former Speaker Modashiru Obasa was impeached while abroad in the US on January 13, 2025. Upon his return, he contested the impeachment process, claiming it was not done correctly.
Meanwhile, Meranda was sworn in as the new Speaker with the support of the Lagos State Governance Advisory Council. Reports of Obasa’s return have led to the removal of Meranda’s security details.
