Lagos Assembly Members Deny Holding Reconciliation Meeting with Reinstated Speaker Obasa

The Lagos State House of Assembly members have refuted claims that they held a reconciliation meeting with reinstated Speaker Mudashiru Obasa following his return to office on March 3, 2025.

Obasa was reinstated after Mojisola Meranda resigned under pressure from party leaders and stakeholders.

Reports on March 4, 2025, suggested that a reconciliation meeting took place. However, lawmakers who attended the gathering dismissed this, stating that the agenda had nothing to do with reconciliation.

According to one lawmaker, an issue that led to Obasa’s initial removal—lateness—resurfaced.

“A meeting scheduled for 1 PM did not start until 2:30 PM. We were kept waiting, and when he arrived, there was no apology. He simply acknowledged our grievances in passing before moving on to the agenda.”

Another member clarified that the meeting only focused on a lawsuit involving suspended Clerk Olalekan Onafeko, whose case is set for hearing on Thursday.

“It was about the case brought against us by the suspended Clerk. The involvement of the DSS and the arrest of some colleagues was also discussed, but that was it. The meeting lasted only a few minutes, and we left.”
