Kayode Fayemi Dismisses Claims of Defecting from APC

Our democracy is not working – Fayemi

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has refuted claims that he has left the All Progressives Congress (APC) amid growing speculations of internal party crises.

Addressing the Defection Rumors

Speculations about Fayemi’s defection arose after reports linked him to APC stakeholders allegedly planning an exit from the party.

Rumors intensified following Monday’s defection of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

However, taking to his X (formerly Twitter) handle, Fayemi debunked the claims, affirming his commitment to the ruling party.

“My attention has been drawn to an online story regarding my defection from the All Progressives Congress.

As I have had cause to state in the past, I am a card-carrying foundation member of the APC, and this position has not changed.”

Calls for Internal Reform

While reaffirming his loyalty to APC, Fayemi acknowledged existing internal disputes within the party but expressed confidence that these challenges could still be resolved. He emphasized the need for greater internal democracy and inclusivity to strengthen the APC ahead of future elections.

With El-Rufai’s defection stirring political tensions, Fayemi’s statement serves as a reassurance to party members amidst the ongoing political realignments.
