Lil Wayne has decided he will no longer entertain the idea of performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show after feeling snubbed for this year’s slot.
The rapper had expressed his desire to perform at the show in his home city of New Orleans, but was disappointed when Kendrick Lamar was chosen instead.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Lil Wayne stated that he will never consider participating in the Super Bowl again.
“They stole that feeling. I don’t want to do it. It was perfect,” he stated.
The 42-year-old noted that he didn’t sit down and watch Lamar’s Super Bowl performance and instead played pool with his friend and went outside to smoke.
“Every time I looked, it was nothing that made me want to go inside and see what was going on,” he added.
The Lollipop hitmaker explained that the National Football League (NFL) bosses encouraged him to appear at more public appearances to prepare for the show, which led him to believe he would get the Halftime Show spot.
“To perform, it’s a bunch of things they’re going to tell you to do and not do, a*ses to kiss and not kiss,” he explained. “If you notice, I was a part of things I’ve never been a part of… I’m doing s**t with (American footballer) Tom Brady. That was all for that. You ain’t never seen me in them types of venues. I ain’t Drake. I ain’t out there smiling like that everywhere. I’m in the (studio), smokin’ and recording.”
Despite feeling hurt by the decision, Lil Wayne clarified that an NFL representative apologized to him and explained they were not responsible for selecting the Halftime Show performer.
Lil Wayne also reassured fans that there are no hard feelings between him and Lamar, as he reached out to the fellow musician to offer his support before the show.
