Police Fire Tear Gas Peaceful Protesters In Abuja (Video)

Police Fire teargas as Peaceful Protest Rocks Abuja

Tensions erupted at the National Assembly premises in Abuja on Tuesday as security operatives dispersed a group of peaceful protesters from the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) who were demanding inclusion in the newly constituted Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) board.

According to eyewitnesses, the protest started peacefully but quickly escalated when the demonstrators accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of allegedly allocating the FCT’s slot to a senator from Benue State, thereby sidelining the indigenous people of Abuja.

Videos circulating online showed the moment mobile police officers advanced toward the crowd, forcing protesters to flee while chanting “Peaceful protesters!

The protesters decried the use of force, accusing authorities of attempting to silence legitimate demands.

“It’s on record that we were harassed for peacefully demanding inclusion. This continued suppression of our rights is unacceptable,” one protester stated.

This latest development highlights ongoing grievances among FCT natives, who have long complained of political marginalization and lack of federal representation, despite Abuja’s status as the nation’s capital.
