Country music artist Conner Smith has been involved in a tragic car accident in Nashville that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Smith was behind the wheel of a pickup truck on June 8 when he allegedly struck a 77-year-old woman who was walking within a marked pedestrian crosswalk. The woman, who lived nearby, was transported to a hospital but sadly passed away from her injuries.
“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian,” the release said. “He showed no signs of impairment.”
The investigation is still underway, and authorities have stated that there are no charges “at present” against Conner Smith.
In response to the incident, Smith’s attorney issued a statement confirming that the Creek Will Rise singer was “involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life.”
“His heart goes out to the family during this incredibly difficult time,” the statement read. “Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”
The fatal accident occurred on the final day of the annual CMA Fest, a popular four-day music festival in Nashville.
Conner Smith, a rising name in the country music scene, was recently nominated for New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards. He married professional surfer Leah Thompson in April 2024.
