Paris Jackson has clapped back at critics calling her out for performing on the anniversary of her father Michael Jackson’s death.
The 27-year-old singer is scheduled to open for Incubus on June 25 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville — exactly 16 years since the King of Pop died at age 50 from a heart attack caused by a propofol and benzodiazepine overdose.
Some social media users expressed disapproval over the timing of her appearance, but Paris Jackson defended her decision, emphasizing that as an opening act, she doesn’t have control over the tour schedule.
“So, people are mad again,” Paris Jackson said in videos shared on her Instagram Stories, according to the New York Post. “One of the tour dates I’m supposed to be going out on tour with Incubus and Manchester Orchestra happens to be June 25, which is a very negative anniversary for me in my life and my family.”
Explaining the realities of being a non-headlining act, Paris added, “So, what I guess I have to explain to these people is that when you’re first of three, and you’re not headlining these shows, you don’t pick what date you perform or what time you go on stage to perform, or what city you perform in.”
She also addressed the logistical limitations, noting, “First of three also doesn’t get a tour bus. You get maybe a sprinter van, which I’ve done before when I’ve got a band with me. But I’m not going to have my band with me this time,” explaining that she would be traveling with her fiancé and sound technician, Justin Long.
Criticizing the backlash, she continued, “Also, why the fk would I make a big fuss about it? This feels like (Incubus is) doing me a favor by bringing me out on tour,” sarcastically adding, “So, I’m gonna tell ’em, ‘Sorry, guys, we can’t perform on this date? Fk you.'”
Paris Jackson was announced as a supporting act, alongside Manchester Orchestra, for Incubus’ 2025 US and UK tour back in March.
