Nigerian highlife sensation Flavour N’abania has opened up about the moment that changed the course of his music career — and it all started with the legendary P-Square.

Speaking on the In My Opinion podcast hosted by Olufemi Ogundoro, Flavour (real name Chinedu Okoli) revealed that seeing the famous duo perform their own songs for the first time inspired him to transition from simply performing live covers to creating his own original music.

“Back then, I used to perform at shows with my live band. We played other people’s songs; I wasn’t yet a recording artiste,” Flavour recounted. “One day at an event, the organisers asked us to clear the stage because P-Square had arrived.”

What happened next left a lasting impression.

“As soon as they stepped on stage and started performing their own songs, the crowd erupted. I stood there shocked. That was the first time it hit me — this is what I’m supposed to be doing. Making my own music, not just performing covers.”

The experience, Flavour said, gave him the clarity he needed to fully pursue a career as a recording artiste.

Prior to that turning point, Flavour honed his musical skills as a church drummer in Enugu, later becoming a multi-instrumentalist and backup singer. His debut album N’abania dropped in 2005, launching a career that has since produced hits like Uplifted, Blessed, Thankful, Ijele the Traveler, and Flavour of Africa.

P-Square, who were already at the height of their fame during Flavour’s encounter with them, dominated the Nigerian music scene with classics such as Senorita and Do Me, setting a standard that inspired many artistes, including Flavour himself.
