Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a direct swipe at former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi over claims that Amaechi’s wife is an “industrialist.” Wike dismissed the statement as misleading and accused the former Rivers State governor of insulting Nigerians’ intelligence.
“Amaechi’s Wife is a Trader, Not an Industrialist” – Wike
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Wike refuted Amaechi’s description of his wife, Judith Amaechi, as an industrialist, stating she merely engages in trading and does not manufacture goods.
“Amaechi said that his wife is an industrialist. He has insulted the sensibility of Nigerians,” Wike said.
“If I’m selling rice or water, I’m not producing them. So how does that make someone an industrialist?”
Wike further questioned Amaechi’s motive for bringing his wife into public discourse and said he would never do the same.
“I respect women. That’s why it’s difficult for me to bring my wife into political discussions. If Amaechi loved his wife, would he drag her into media controversy?”
Wike to Tinubu: “Release the NDDC Forensic Audit or I Resign”
Beyond the Amaechi spat, Wike challenged President Bola Tinubu to release the long-awaited forensic audit report of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), which was commissioned in 2021.
“Let President Tinubu help Nigerians by releasing the forensic audit report of the NDDC. If the report proves me wrong, I will resign as FCT Minister,” Wike boldly stated.
He alleged that the report was shelved to protect powerful interests and claimed that contractors gave bribes to politicians—including Amaechi—via luxury items.
“His anger is that I used a Rolls-Royce. I bought mine. A contractor gave him his own—that’s a bribe,” Wike alleged.
“I Don’t Worship Office,” Wike Declares
The FCT Minister emphasized his readiness to vacate office if the NDDC audit disproves his allegations.
“If what I’m saying is not in the forensic audit, I’ll resign. I don’t worship the office. My integrity is more important,” he said.
Wike’s comments are the latest in the ongoing war of words between him and Amaechi, two political heavyweights who have long dominated Rivers State politics but are now locked in a fierce public feud.
