Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Kogi West Senator Dino Melaye following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
In a recent appearance on Channels Television, Olayinka described Melaye and others who left the PDP as “bad eggs” whose absence would not be missed.
“Let the bad eggs leave,” Olayinka said. “For instance, one of those bad eggs telling us that they are doing coalition is from Kogi State.”
Olayinka went further to mock Melaye’s role during the Kogi State governorship election, where the ex-lawmaker contested under the PDP banner.
“He was a candidate of the PDP and on the day of the election, he was in his house busy doing social media content,” Olayinka said.
“He did not even come out to vote. Somebody who did not vote for himself in his own election is the one talking about coalition. I’m talking about Dino Melaye.”
Background
Dino Melaye recently announced his exit from the PDP and aligned with a new political coalition under the ADC, citing internal crisis and poor leadership as reasons. His move has stirred reactions within political circles, with some hailing it as a bold step, while others—like Olayinka—dismissed it as inconsequential.
This public war of words adds to the ongoing friction among opposition party leaders, especially ahead of future elections.
