Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Anita Natacha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has urged women to prioritize financial independence, regardless of their partner’s wealth.
Speaking during an interview on Outside the Box, the reality star made it clear that she would never split responsibilities equally in a relationship.
“Nobody would I do 50/50 with. No, no, I wouldn’t do 50/50 with anybody, really,” Tacha said. “Maybe whilst growing up or in university, I probably would have. Or even in the university, I didn’t. So I won’t do that now. I would say, use it as an inspiration to go get your shit together.”
She explained that while she may occasionally contribute financially, it would never be an arrangement of equal sharing.
“Would I bring out my money sometimes? Yeah, I would. But it will not be a case where we’re doing 50/50… no. There are times when maybe I probably do not have enough. I wanna do 100% if I could. There are times that you do 100%, but the whole 50/50 thing is just giving friends and peer groups,” she added.
When asked about balancing her stance with the belief that women should not depend on men, Tacha stressed the importance of independence.
“Yeah, it is true to not depend on any man. And regardless of how rich your partner or how rich your husband is, you just never know what tomorrow might bring. So it’s just always great for you to be independent. Try to get a business or just anything else that makes you not be a liability.”
