Nigerian music star Temilade Openiyi, better known as Tems, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first female African artist to sell over 10 million units in the United States.
Her global hit “Wait For U”, a collaboration with Future and Drake, recently crossed the 10 million sales mark in the U.S., according to Chart Data. The track is now eligible for the prestigious RIAA Diamond certification.
With this feat, Tems becomes only the second African artist to reach such a record, following Wizkid’s success with “One Dance” alongside Drake in 2016.
The Love Me Jeje crooner has also solidified her status as the best-selling female African artist in the U.S., with a string of acclaimed hits like “Essence”, “Free Mind”, “Higher”, “Me & U”, and “Found” earning multiple Platinum and Gold certifications.
This achievement cements Tems’ place as one of Africa’s most powerful voices on the global music stage.
