“Salvation Without Money Will Make You Sin” – Pastor Tobi Adegboyega

Popular UK-based Nigerian pastor, Tobi Adegboyega, has triggered widespread reactions following his controversial remarks on the link between salvation and poverty.

In a recent conversation with content creator Shank, Adegboyega asserted that a person could still fall into sin even after attaining salvation if they lack financial stability. He argued that poverty often pushes individuals into compromising situations, regardless of their spiritual convictions.

The pastor also pointed out that many churches neglect the economic well-being of their members by focusing solely on salvation. According to him, the responsibility of a pastor should go beyond preaching; it should also involve creating systems and businesses that empower the congregation financially.

Adegboyega criticized the structure of certain churches where the pastors live in affluence while their members remain impoverished. He maintained that true Christian growth must reflect both spiritual and material prosperity, emphasizing that salvation and financial success should coexist to help believers lead righteous and fulfilling lives.

His words …

“Your own pastors take from them. We have built communities to make people rich. Prosperity alongside salvation. You see it or you see young people that are prosperous. So it is salvation first. The church, your pastor, must not be have work enough to set up businesses that make you prosper. Because if you have salvation and you are poor, you will sin last and last. If you have salvation and you are poor, you will sin. Yes, because you want to eat. Because you have no choice. Yes, because you want to eat. This is the kind of churches we grow up in. The pastor will be rich, but the people will be poor.”
