Veteran musician and activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has aimed social commentator Reno Omokri over his recent statements denying allegations of genocide against Christians in Nigeria.

The controversy stems from an ongoing debate about claims of mass killings of Christians by extremist groups in parts of the country. While some international observers allege that over 50 Christians have been killed in recent years, the Nigerian government and several stakeholders have dismissed the claims, insisting that the security crisis affects all citizens regardless of religion.

Omokri, in his recent posts, also maintained that the genocide claims are false, arguing that the violence in Nigeria is not targeted at a particular faith. However, Nigerians were quick to resurface one of his older tweets where he accused former President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration of allowing the genocide of Christians, sparking accusations of hypocrisy.

Reacting to the contradiction, Charly Boy took to his official Facebook page to criticize Omokri, accusing him of double standards and using activism as a tool to gain political favor under President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Writing partly in Pidgin English, Charly Boy said:

“When I see how far some people fit go just to wear fake respectability on top rotten character, na so their shame dey shame me.
You wan use people’s suffering buy political appointment? You dey twist stories of Christian killings—one minute you cry genocide, next minute you say no genocide—all because your stomach don move to another camp.”

He further described Omokri as “proof that education does not equal integrity,” adding that hypocrisy has a stench “everyone can now perceive.”

“Reno, you be proof say education no equal integrity. Big grammar no fit cover small mind and big shit. Silence na how fake men become role models,” he wrote.

The fiery post has since generated massive reactions across social media, with many Nigerians divided—some backing Charly Boy’s criticism, while others defended Omokri’s evolving political stance.
