Alex Iwobi Sets New Record as Nigerian with Most Premier League Appearances

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has made history by becoming the Nigerian player with the highest number of appearances in the English Premier League.

The 28-year-old reached the milestone after featuring for Fulham in their 1–0 loss to his former club, Arsenal, at Craven Cottage on Saturday, October 18. Iwobi played the full 90 minutes as Arsenal secured a late winner.

Earlier this month, he had equalled Shola Ameobi’s record of 298 Premier League appearances when he started against Bournemouth. His latest outing now puts him ahead as Nigeria’s most-capped player in the competition.

Iwobi’s landmark game comes nearly a decade after his Premier League debut for Arsenal against Swansea City on October 27, 2015 — making the achievement a full-circle moment in his career.

Following him and Ameobi on the all-time list are Nwankwo Kanu (273 appearances), Yakubu Aiyegbeni (252), and John Obi Mikel (249).
